Melissa Alpert
Educational Therapist
I am an Educational Therapist committed to helping children of all ages learn how to become independent and confident in their educational journey. My focus is to develop an individualized intervention plan tailored to each client’s needs to build success and skills over time. Connecting with the child and family is a valuable part of celebrating each client’s strengths and building the courage to face their challenges. I strive to provide safe, fun, and interactive sessions filled with games and multi-sensory activities. With over 25 years of teaching experience, I have made learning achievable for neurodiverse children who walk away feeling confident and successful.

Education
My educational background includes a BA in Education from the University of Arizona. After taking four years of American Sign Language in college, I decided to continue my studies at CSUN in their Deaf Education program. In addition, I have a post-graduate Certification in Educational Therapy from the University of California, Riverside. I am an Active Member of the Association of Educational Therapists and certified in the Orton-Gillingham method, a multisensory approach to teaching reading and spelling.

Experience
My teaching career includes working in regular and special education instruction from preschool to high school. I was fortunate to begin my teaching career in a Deaf and Hard of Hearing mainstream program in the Burbank Unified School District. Following my years in the classroom, I shifted my focus to one-to-one instruction serving all types of learners. While working privately with students, I joined the Las Virgenes School District as a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialist. Knowing my passion was working with students with academic challenges, I knew I needed to pursue the field of Educational Therapy to empower students in learning how to learn.
